Eating Out
Nearby we have:-
The Star and Eagle, Goudhurst
This pub dates back to the 14th Century and was reputedly once an ancient monastery. There is evidence of vaulted stonework in some parts that date back to that period. It’s situated at the top of the hill below the church. The notorious “Hawkhurst Gang” of smugglers made it their HQ whilst robbing, raiding and terrorising the surrounding areas.
Karin who runs this pub ensures that the food and service are excellent and consistently so, it has never let us down when making recommendations. Family run open 7 days a week.
Halfway House, Brenchley
Here is a pub that is proud of its excellent real ales served straight from the barrel. There are 7 to 10 different beers to sample every day. This is a pub without fruit machines or televisions. It serves delicious food with a menu on a chalkboard at the bar.
The building is timber framed and quirky with many different floor levels inside. Family run.
The Peacock Inn, Goudhurst
Another 14th Century timber framed pub. This offers locally sourced fresh food, beer and wine. Family fun.
A traditional Sunday roast is served weekly from 12 – 4pm
This pub offers breakfast 7 days a week including lunch or dinner. They boast of having locally sourced seasonal food and excellent pizzas (verified) in their fresh clay oven. They serve international beers, wines and spirits. They also serve wine from the owners local vineyard, Hush Heath.
The Green Cross Inn, Goudhurst
Here we have a family run pub and restaurant specialising in outstanding seafood such as mussels cataplana, lobster thermidor, salt baked whole fish and much more. They also serve traditional meat dishes as well as steaks.
They state, “Unpretentious honest deliciously fresh food, aptly described prepared and cooked on our premises, come and see for yourself.” We believe it to be true!
